Described as “a cross between Carmen Miranda and the Marx Brothers”, the Irish National Clown Orchestra of Ireland (INCOI) is a band of clown musicians who love to play music and clown.

INCOI began in 2014 with three playful musicians who put a band together, adopted a ridiculously grand title, and started playing gigs. Since then INCOI have developed new shows, expanded their musical line-up to include saxophone and clarinet, and played at festivals such as the Electric Picnic, Body and Soul, The FUN-DRUM Festival, arts venues, street shows, private parties and other events around Ireland. The company has worked and trained with clown director Aitor Basauri from Spymonkey and Cirque du Soleil. This work was supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.

INCOI director Jaimie Carswell trained in clown at the Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris, as well as with Philippe Gaulier, and John Wright among others. He and has created numerous clown shows including Le Cabaret Oublié, The Spalpeen Bonaparts, and the multi-award winning Cirque de Légume. The New York Times called Jaimie a “consummate physical comedian” and he has been the Artist in Residence teaching clown at a number of universities. In addition to acting and clowning Jaimie is also a busy professional bass player.
